05 / Image verification
Provenance.
An image metadata and verification system for practical coursework and fieldwork.
Scope
Final-year project · frontend and product design
Built with
Next.js · TypeScript · exifr · Better Auth · Motion

Built as a final-year project, Provenance helps students submit photographic evidence and gives reviewers an auditable record. It checks what a camera recorded while keeping original image analysis in the browser.
02 / The challenge
Make the complex clear.
A photograph can look convincing while its origin, timing, or reuse remains unclear. Reviewers need evidence they can inspect without treating missing metadata as proof of misconduct.
03 / The approach
Design and implementation.
The interface extracts EXIF details locally, checks capture time, location, device, and duplicates, then presents reports to students and a restricted reviewer ledger. A companion API re-derives verdicts rather than trusting the client.
04 / In the build
- 01Browser-side EXIF analysis
- 02SHA-256 duplicate detection across submissions
- 03Student and lecturer flows with printable reports
